From the Times of West Virginia: "Early this week, the West Virginia House introduced a bill to raise the cigarette tax by 66-cents per pack, moving it up from 54-cents to $1.20. The bill also calls to raise the tax on other tobacco products from 7 percent of the wholesale price to 14 percent. "On Feb. 19, the House also introduced a similar bill which proposes to eliminate the state’s food tax and raise taxes on alcoholic beverages and cigarettes."
The US federal cigarette tax, incidentally, goes up 62 cents on each pack of ciggies, along with gargantuan increases in many other tobacco taxes as of April. Had enough? Feel singled out? Fight back!
