Interesting article by Jacob Sullum on the latest permutation of the passive smoking fraud – that smoking bans decrease heart attacks. The fraudulent statistical methodology used to produce these junk science "studies" has been abundantly debunked and denounced by several parties, including anti smoking advocate Michael Siegel.
Nevertheless, the production continues, and it is advertised by dishonest and corrupt health authorities all over the world to create the impression of empirical and "overwhelming evidence" on the "harms" of passive smoking and on the "benefits" of prohibition – benefits that "justify" and "offset" the now insuppressible evidence of personal liberty repression and, especially, economic disaster. The fanatical anti smoking logic, in fact goes like this: any and all costs are justified even if the "save" just one life, and even if the "saving" of that one live cannot ever be demonstrated.
Jacob Sullum reversed the junk science to "demonstrate" that smoking bans "cause" heart attacks. Why not? When trash and fraud become institutional policy and political currents, one may as well use it to his advantage.
