Beginning next year Ely Lilly will disclose payments to Doctors. With the support of the American Medical Association, some pharmaceutical companies will begin disclosing payments of over $500.00 made to doctors, stating that a day away from their practice to attend seminars, etc., should be compensated.
It goes without saying, that the public should be made well aware of exactly who in the medical community is receiving large amounts of money and from whom they are receiving it. It is obvious that a doctor will be swayed in diagnosing patients and prescribing medications, when he or she has received funding from a third party, ie: a pharmaceutical company.
It also goes without saying, that a better informed public will, in the future, be able to choose a Doctor to fit their individual needs. It remains to be seen if and when this disclosure will take place.
