"There is now so much money to be made by simply smuggling cigarettes from low-tax states to high-tax states, say government officials, that smuggling costs the nation as much as $5 billion a year in lost tax revenue". The American Cancer Society has been pushing for an additional $1.00 tax on cigarettes and many states have passed outrageous new taxes. This is what happens when the price of any commodity becomes too high organized crime steps in and takes over just as they did when this country passed Prohibition. The agenda of the ACS is not in the best interest of the people nor the states. When are the legislator’s going to stop paying attention to the mouth piece of the Pharmaceuticals companies?
