Standing up for yourself as a smoker is difficult. Smokers have been browbeaten so long that passive acquiescence is almost second nature. Pat Nurse realizes that the desire to "get along" is a loser’s game. Better to stand up, even in small matters, and start the process of gaining self-respect.
