If we were living in a saner era, it would be credible to say that what you read here comes from some institution for the mentally retarded. But the news is true!
Although it is unclear how much of this was really meant as tongue-in-cheek given these "public health" times, apparently McCain recently reacted to an Associated Press report of rising U.S. cigarette exports to Iran by saying that it may be "a way of killing ’em."
"’Maybe that’s a way of killing ’em,’ McCain said to reporters during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh. ‘I meant that as a joke, as a person who hasn’t had a cigarette in 28 years, 29 years,’ he added, laughing."
Critics of his politics may say that having deprived himself of the benefits of smoking for so long may be the "scientifically demonstrated" cause of some of his deranged statements, but that is for another occasion and for another audience. Regardless, our hearts bleed for him, and for the squalor that must have pervaded his existence since he surrendered to the healthist superstitions and way of life.
Regardless, one thing is for certain: if the United States beefs up its cigarettes sales to Iran to “kill” Iranians, well… they will be with us for a very long, long time!
Not even one death in the world can be scientifically demonstrated to be caused by smoking — and that makes cigarettes a very poor strategic weapon. The good ol’ bombs McCain sings about may be far more effective – in the short and in the long run.
