Discrimination in hiring smokers is on the rise as more companies refuse to hire people who smoke. This article is nicely put together, it points out several other lifestyle choices that add to health care costs besides smoking.

It concludes that "Some smart lawyers are going to file a huge class-action lawsuit against these employers and they’ll win".

We agree and can’t wait to see the fireworks!
New Jersey

Only 1 cent is being spent of the $2.40 per pack to smoking cessation programs in New Jersey. Needless to say, the anti-smoking advocates are whining. Whine as much as you want your major "cottage" industry is not going to be funded in hard times. Get over it and find another job!
Missouri
The ACS is 501(c)3 charitable nonprofits, which are not allowed to participate in politics. This is a flagrant violation of IRS regulations. The ends do not justify the means.
Kalifornia

Gov. Brown signed a new law which would allow landlords to ban smoking in their rental units. California claims that only 14% of the population smokes. Really, I have some swamp land I would like to sell you.
Maryland

No smoking in condo’s, townhouses and apartments if a civil suit in Prince George’s county is won (Schuman v. Popovic). They are basing this lawsuit on the Surgeon General’s Report in 2006 and 2010, both which have been debunked by many scientists. We hope the defendant contacts us for information so they win.
Many people feel strongly that your home is your castle and we agree.
The Right Questions Are Being Asked

"In a hearing that lasted two hours, a federal judge closely questioned a government lawyer on whether the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) can force tobacco companies to post graphic images on their cigarette packages showing the health effects of smoking".

U.S. District Judge Richard Leon sought answers on whether the FDA’s nine graphic images convey just the facts about the health risks of smoking or go beyond that into advocacy, a critical distinction in the case, said an Associated Press report.

The Anti-Tobacco groups are charitable nonprofits who cross the line every day lobbying for more stringent smoking bans. We are glad that a Judge is beginning to ask the right questions.

Times Are A Changing?

A EURO MP, Wirral MEP Paul Nuttall, thinks it is time to rethink the smoking ban that has cost England dearly. "The political powers of this country dealt pubs an absolute hammer blow four years ago with the total smoking ban. It has taken 20% off pub takings.

"Across Northern Europe common sense is prevailing and pubs and restaurants are now allowed to provide a separate smoking room.

"This is exactly what should be happening here, it would make such a difference."

Indeed, sanity is returning to the real world, about time!

Your Tax Dollars at Work

The Virginia Tobacco Commission has given Floyd County $700,000 to bolster a private medical business that advocates say might someday produce spare human body parts — and needed jobs.

At least they are refurbishing a golf course as they have done in the past.

Butting In

Shouldn’t be surprised that American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Legacy Foundation, the American Lung Association, the American Medical Association, the American Public Health Association, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and Public Citizen have filed as "friend of the court" saying the federal government has a strong interest in more effectively informing people about the effects of tobacco and current warnings aren’t sufficient.

In other words they support graphic pictures on 90% of cigarette packages.
