Welcome to the FORCES site!

Forces was founded before the majority of households had personal computers. Now we have smart phones, ipads and high speed Internet service to the majority of people in the United States and Europe. We have 24/7 - news cycles, Facebook, Twitter and Google, we have truly entered the information age. Thus we have decided to de-emphasize our focus on serving as a news feed while still working to bring about a new age of peaceful coexistence of smokers and nonsmokers.

There are now a good number of high quality and dependable newsletters, email lists, and blogs that produce new, reliable, and thought-provoking material on daily and weekly bases. Our News Page will largely serve to direct FORCES visitors to those resources while still featuring contributions from our own core group of writers. You can also continue to join us on Forces Tavern or Facebook.

FORCES will be concentrating our efforts on bringing true Free Choice to the second quarter of our 21st Century, a period where we'll likely see a full acceptance of ventilation, air filtration and tolerance largely taking the place of today's more unreasonable prohibitions. It's now 2017, and over the next eight years we will lay the groundwork for that new generation and help move the world to a place where the rights of all people, smokers, nonsmokers, vapers and nonvapers alike, are considered and respected.

We still need your help and support to continue to keep the website open to all, with updates on the latest anti-smoking research. The anti-smoking establishment has a great deal of money to continue to spread their misinformation campaign and while all of us are volunteers we still need your donations. Please be generous and donate now, your donations are tax deductible.

New Zealand
2nd December 2019
New Zealand first is invoking the 'agree to disagree' provision of its coalition agreement with Labour because it doesn't support the announced 11.46 percent increase in tobacco excise from January 1.

The increase will still go ahead because it has been passed by regulation. He said the policy of automatically increasing tobacco excise has "reached the limit of its effectiveness".

Trump's course correction on e-cigarettes
1st December 2019
Annie Karni, Maggie Haberman, and Sheila Kaplan of the New York Times describe U.S. president Donald Trump’s proposed ban on flavored e-cigarette products as “a swift and bold reaction to a growing public health crisis affecting teenagers” that Trump backed away from “under pressure from his political advisers and lobbyists to factor in the potential pushback from his supporters.” Maybe they’re right about Trump’s motivations, but they’re wrong about pretty much everything else. E-cigarettes are not a “public health crisis.” That supposed crisis is not “growing.” And to the extent that teenagers are negatively affected by e-cigarettes, the very “bold reactions” the three writers seem to favor are far more culpable than e-cigarettes themselves. E-cigarettes are, according to all credible evidence, safer than burning sticks of tobacco — sorry, Food and Drug Administration, you don’t get to tell me I can’t say so. A few cases of lung injury from black market “street vapes” have been reported, the cause (use of vitamin E in the “juice”) seems to have been identified, and that problem is already disappearing in the rear-view mirror. Who buys “street vapes?” People who can’t buy the e-cigarette products they want legally, either because of content (cannabis) or age (the teenagers the Times authors imply they care about so much). Banning flavored e-cigarette products wouldn’t stop teenagers, or anyone else, from getting flavored e-cigarette products. It would just send even more of them to the “street vape” market for those products. If Trump reconsidered his proposed ban due to political pressure and the desire to be re-elected, so what? A good decision is a good decision.

Trump changes position on E-Cigarettes
25th November 2019
Trump announced a ban on non-tobacco flavored vapes on Sept. 11 and expressed concern for the health of "kids" including his teenager Barron. But last week, he reportedly stalled plans to implement this policy on concern that it would alienate some voters ahead of the 2020 elections.

Bloomberg
25th November 2019
Michael Bloomberg announced Sunday he is running for president, bringing a narrow following but boundless bank account to the crowded Democratic primary.

He’s already targeting Trump’s record: On Monday, Bloomberg laced into the president for delaying action on outlawing flavored e-cigarettes. The issue happens to be a winning one for Bloomberg, whose mayoral health initiatives like banning smoking in restaurants and bars were mimicked throughout the country and well received by fellow Democrats.

He has invested funds in combating flavored e-cigarettes from his charitable foundation,
Bloomberg Philanthropies, which is doubling as the headquarters for his nascent campaign.

E-Cigarettes Not Linked To Teen Smoking
5th November 2019
CNN)Vaping makes teens more likely to try cigarettes, but doesn't increase the odds that they'll become smokers, according to a new study that looked at more than 12,000 middle school and high school students in the United States.

The study calls into question earlier research that has linked electronic cigarettes to traditional smoking, but experts disputed the importance of the new findings. Many praised the study's methodology, for example, while also describing it as just one piece of evidence in a growing and conflicting field.
