Articles logged from May to July, 1999"We're not in the business of banning smoking......." That's right Mr. McCloy, that's the BUSINESS of certain public health officials who are trying to justify their existence and paycheques by jumping on this politically-correct bandwagon. Attempting to ban public smoking based on the myth created by false science was their big mistake. The Passive Smoke WHOPPER The public has been lied to, and treated with utter contempt. That contempt is going to be returned. One of these 'officials' has been quoted as saying, "There's a place for smokers - outside". Well, there's a place for fanatical public health officials too, on the unemployment line, if not jail.
The potential outcome is business closures, fines and/or jail time for owners who do not enforce what this Regional District is unable to do themselves. The Victoria Freedom of Choice Coalition indicates that they're prepared to challenge the CRD in court. If they do, legal expenses will be high and they'll need help. Link to Victoria Freedom of Choice Coalition and find out how you can help. They're fighting for everyone. If this bylaw is successful here, in Canada's first Regional test area, it'll be in your neighbourhood next.
The use of children by the anti-smoking faction needs a thorough investigation. The teaching of critical thinking skills seems to be a thing of the past. One needs only to have the appearance of a 'mantle of authority' to eliminate all opposition and debate, presenting a de facto scheme to further this reprehensible social engineering experiment. What's going on in this Country? Have a look at Collabo "The Use of Children for Squealing and State Prosecution" Is this what we want for Canada?
Smoke and be proud.
Just one question. What are primary school students doing out of their classrooms intervening at City Hall an ADULT issue? If you're a parent of a child in the Winnipeg school system, we would suggest asking the School Board about their 'policy' of using children to advance an agenda. It might also be a good idea to check how well your children are able to read/write/add/compute while you're at it. If their skill levels are below what you expect - guess they're too involved with 'social' issues. Isn't the last one suppose to be YOUR job? Ron Ledohowski, acting President of the Cabaret Alliance of Manitoba, spoke for the ADULTS in that community who find relaxation in places other than Sesame Street/Big Bird, Mr. Rogers, Friendly Giant, Barney, TeleTubbies.......well, you get the idea.....
Toronto Sun columnist Heather Bird reports on a Toronto proposal to back off on smoking in restaurants while a good ventilation solution is found. Full council will consider the idea in July. Bird sounds feisty when she call the antis "smoking fascists ", and objects to them "telling the rest of us how to live", but seems to endorse dragging tobacco into the war on drugs. It's the typical media mind split that we so often find on tobacco issues and, like too many reporters and commentators, she seems completely ignorant of the Osteen decision, and the real state of knowledge over ETS -- and indeed, primary smoking. The "Nico-Nazis" RELY on that ignorance!
Yes CRD, (Capital Regional District, Vancouver Island, B.C.) business is going elsewhere because of your high-handed, elitist 'Clean-Air' bylaw. When home becomes just a place you 'hang your hat' in the grim and joyless 'job' of living - and the fun and real living takes place somewhere else, perhaps it's time to take a good look at the rules you're making for ADULTS with disposable, discretionary dollars to spend. The children do grow up, make CHOICES, pay taxes, spend money, VOTE - and guess what? 25+% of them smoke. Municipal elections are coming up in Fall '99. If you're an incumbent and intend to run again for office, what's your voting record on this issue? Those with a vote who care enough to head out to the polls already know.
As the 'witch hunt' continues in the Capital Regional District (CRD) on Vancouver Island, more and more people are speaking out. The writer of this article takes particular exception to not only what's happening in the hospitality industry, but also the effect the so-called 'Clean Air' bylaw is having on those who have arrived at their "last address" - hospice and extended care homes. The words regulation and prohibition have been redefined to mean the same thing in this area of Canada. But then the powers-that-be are very good at redefinition. If something doesn't fit the mold and advance the agenda, you just change the meaning of a word, as has happened with addiction.
"How many more people are going to lose their jobs, how many more businesses close before common sense will prevail?" The linked letter in this article from a now unemployed waiter, was published in the Times Colonist Newspaper today. The rank elitism surrounding this entire 'Clean Air' bylaw comes through loud and clear in the writer's comments.

Strathcona Hotel bartender Wayne Winger, a 30-year, non-smoking bartender, said his tips are down at least 50 per cent since the 'Clean Air' bylaw was enacted on January 01st and he has yet to feel any health benefits. A little sarcasm perhaps in his remark that the only 'benefit' he's received so far is cleaner clothes. "So I don't have to do laundry as much." ".......a monster has been created - tame it or eliminate it" Pass any law you want - if you don't have the support of the people you're suppose to represent, it's "spit in the wind". Elections are coming up, and you'd better believe that SMOKERS are very well aware of the federal/provincial/municipal - VOTES of those currently 'in power' on this issue. Go right ahead - make our day - if you currently hold an ELECTED office, maybe you should examine your position on this issue. We guarantee that those who are concerned with Freedom of Choice are well aware, and will vote accordingly.
The fact that Mr. Cheperdak and Ms. Westcott had to go to these lengths is a disgrace and a very telling commentary on what this society has devolved into. It's also an excellent example of the personality of anti-smoking fanatics - devoid of humanity and utterly compassionless. Is this just the beginning of what we can expect in the 'new world order' (global community)?
If you live in that area and care at all about preserving some freedom of choice, there's only one more meeting left, at the end of June, to make your opinion known. The antis are out in full force - check back regularly with Mister Smokers for tips on how you can make a difference in your part of Ontario.
"Sure we can have a smoking ban. But we can ban rainy days too. Fine. Everyone will feel really good about it until it rains." "If you go too far and bring in something that isn't credible, .....it becomes a joke. It's not enforceable and no one takes it seriously." Mayor Glen Murray It is a joke - except to those hospitality establishments that go out of business because of it, and to the workers who spend their days on the unemployment line. Of course the non elected would-be social engineers, in the guise of 'public health', don't concern themselves with 'collateral damage' in pursuit of their Agenda for a Smoke Free Canada by the Year 2000.
These poor people are headed to Canada to start a new life in peace. What these poor persecuted people don't know is that they are heading out of a persecution into another. The criminal Canadian anti-tobacco cartel is rubbing his hands waiting for new victims to "straighten up," and show them how low, useless, pathetic addicts they are. But now that these people from the 3rd World have the questionable privilege of living in this "advanced" country of the 4th World they will have to be TOLD what to do or they will be persecuted -- again. Contrary to any decency -- and denying even the indirect request of the Canadian Red Cross -- the putrid, heartless, stomach turning, paternalistic Health Canada refuses to give relief to these people by giving them the simplest thing for the spirit: a cigarette. " John McDonald, director of public affairs at Rothmans, said yesterday that their company is prohibited under the Tobacco Act from giving donations of cigarettes. ``We'd like to assist but we contacted Health Canada and they wouldn't make an exception,'' said McDonald. ARE YOU NOT ASHAMED OF YOURSELF, HEALTH CANADA?!!
Anti-smoking lobby groups aren't well known for their 'fiscal' responsibility/knowledge, being either government or pharmaceutical company funded, but this should be a wake-up call for those who are ELECTED to ensure that the overall viability of the jurisdictions they represent is cared for. Perhaps the anti-smoking fanatics would like to explain to the unemployed hospitality workers in the CRD just how this Bylaw doesn't affect jobs. Be sure to check out the direct link to Victoria Freedom of Choice Coalition for donation information. They've mounted a legal challenge to get this Bylaw thrown out; given the specious evidence it's based on (the dangers of Environmental Tobacco Smoke - ETS) and the constitutional violation to existing legal freedoms, they've an excellent chance of succeeding. It costs money to proceed in this direction - with no government or tobacco company funding, it's up to citizens who are concerned about the violations to trust and liberty to 'put their money where their mouth is'.
Elected officials in every municipality, city, or region should be aware that the anti-smoking bylaws they are being asked to pass, or have already passed, have no credible scientific evidence to support the assertion that it's to protect the health of workers. If the truth were told by those who lobby for these types of bylaws, it would be that banning public smoking is a tactic to advance the anti-smoking agenda. (A Smoke Free Canada by the Year 2000) We applaud Mr. Hennessy's efforts to prevent this intended bylaw in the Sudbury Region from becoming a fact, and wish all the concerned citizens there success in preserving the truth when it comes to the issue of secondhand smoke.
