First, Do No Harm

FORCES Columnist Andrew Phillips comments on a recent incident that occurred in Dallas, TX, where a physician allegedly attempted to run a smoker over with his car.

Well, smokers appear to be targets of opportunity now. If there is any reason to start fighting back it's because the medical profession has completely forgotten it's first duty, "first, do no harm". That duty includes using a car to run people over, I think. On a side note from history after we crushed Nazi Germany in World War II, the Nuremburg Trials took place. Seven of the leading Nazis were found guilty of War crimes and executed. What many people do not know is that a separate trial took place in which the medical profession was on trial and seven of those people were also hanged.

The problem being the entire medical profession in Germany, almost to the man, went along with the eugenics practices of the Nazis. In fact, the doctor that didn't go along with it was a very rare bird. For a good read on this subject I suggest that people consider reading "Cleansing the Fatherland: Nazi Medicine and Racial Hygiene" by Gotz Aly, Peter Chroust and Christian Pross. This sort of crap happens when the entire medical and schooling structure is in the hands of the state. This is what can happen when doctors are state employees. This link is merely the tip of the iceberg. In Canada, in Quebec, they are now talking about euthanasia and that is a mirror of the Nazi T-4 program. We're on a slippery slope in North America.
